This followed last week’s disaster caused by the ravaging sea in the area, prompting the authorities to act.

In the situation report submitted to the Regional office for national attention, Ketu South NADMO Director, Paul Alossode (Torgbui) said on Sunday 1st February 2025, there was a coastal flooding incident at Amutinu due to high sea tides.

As a result, Forty-nine (49) households comprising three hundred and eighteen (318) individuals were affected by this incident; fifty-two (52) were adult males, fifty-six (56) were adult females; one-hundred and one (101) were boys below 18 years and one hundred and nine (109) were girls below 18 years.

According to the report, Twenty-eight (28) houses were affected by this incident. Personal belongings including electrical gadgets, clothing, and foodstuff were affected as a result of the flood.

And that, the office could not ascertain the exact cost of damage but no casualty or injury was recorded.

The respective Zonal Coordinators recommended the Office assist the victims with food and non-food relief items and measures must be taken to relocate residents to Salakope island.

The report also mentioned the fact that the completion of the sea defence or groyne project that has stalled is the solution to protecting the coastal line.
