Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister for Education, has stressed the urgent need for Ghana to invest in a second gas infrastructure beyond the existing Atuabo facility.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Wednesday, he pointed out that the country can no longer rely solely on diesel and petrol, especially with its vast natural gas resources that are still underutilized.

“We should be thinking of investing in a second gas infrastructure plan,” Iddrisu said during the interview. “Even if it costs us between $750 million and $1.2 billion, I’m not an expert in this field, but we need it as urgently as possible.”

He further emphasized, “Instead of flaring gas, we should use our natural gas to power our energy system, which would help ensure a more sustainable and reliable energy future for the country.”
