Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, has emerged victorious in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primary for Ayawaso East Constituency, securing 431 votes. He beat Hajia Amina Adam, widow of the late MP Naser Toure, who polled 399 votes. The other contestants, Mohammed Ramme, Dr. Yakubu Azindow, and Mohammed Najib, received 88, 45, and 1 vote(s) respectively.
The primary, held on February 7, 2026, was not without controversy, with allegations of vote-buying and inducement, including reports of delegates receiving television sets and other gifts. The NDC has launched an investigation into these claims.
