The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, is participating in the 2025 Open Parliament Day taking place from 6th to 10th October 2025 in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain, as part of global activities marking the Open Government Partnership (OGP) Global Summit.
The event, jointly organized by the Basque Parliament, the Congress of Deputies of Spain, the Open Parliament e-Network (OPeN), and the Open Government Partnership (OGP), brings together parliamentarians, ministers, civil society representatives, and governance experts from around the world to exchange ideas on strengthening transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in parliamentary processes.
As part of the conference, the Minister joined a high-level panel discussion on Parliamentary Affairs and Inclusivity, where she highlighted Ghana’s commitment to advancing gender equality and social inclusion through open and participatory governance.
She emphasized the importance of integrating gender perspectives into parliamentary work and legislative reforms to ensure equitable representation and effective policymaking.
In a related development, the Ghanaian and Moroccan delegations held a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the summit, during which they exchanged National Action Plans under the OGP framework. The Ghanaian delegation, led by Hon. Emmanuel Bedzra, Member of Parliament for Ho West and Chairman of OGP-Ghana, underscored the urgent need for African countries to collaborate more closely to enhance citizen participation in laws and decisions that directly impact their lives.
Both delegations welcomed the proposal and expressed their readiness to host the first Africa OGP Regional Forum in Rabat or Marrakesh, Morocco. The Moroccan team was led by Mr. Muhammed Ghayate, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, while Ghana’s Ambassador to Spain, H.E. Madam Regina Appiah-Sam, was also in attendance.
The Open Parliament Day serves as a global platform for collaboration and knowledge exchange among parliaments, promoting innovative approaches that deepen democratic governance and exploring digital tools that enhance citizen engagement and public trust in institutions.
