Ghana and Serbia have reaffirmed their commitment to deepen their relations for the mutual benefit of their peoples. The commitment was made during a bilateral meeting which was held on 17th July, 2025 between the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP) and his Serbian counterpart, His Excellency Marko Đurić, who is on a three-day Official Visit to Ghana. The fulcrum of their discussion was on the economy, trade, defence, agriculture, education, and culture.

During the meeting, Honourable Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP) acknowledged the long-standing historical relations between Ghana and Serbia which dates back to the era of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY) and recalled how Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and President Josef Broz Tito played significant roles in the formation of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) for the promotion of global peace and security through the policy of non-alignment.

Honourable Okudzeto Ablakwa stated the need to use the strong political cooperation between the two countries as a lever to build strong relations in the area of trade. He urged investors from Serbia to take advantage of the stable political and conducive business environment in Ghana to partner with their Ghanaian counterparts to explore areas for cooperation in various sectors of both economies. He acknowledged the scholarships awarded to Ghanaian students to pursue programmes in Serbian universities and announced that Ghana is opened to receiving Serbian students for exchange programmes.

He further commended Serbia for cooperating with Ghana in the areas of agriculture, maritime, defence and education, and urged for closer collaboration through trade and investment, knowledge sharing, technology, sports, tourism, culture, creative arts, among others.

On his part, His Excellency Marko Đurić agreed that the two countries have certain similarities in their trajectory towards development and acknowledged the need for enhanced cooperation. He stated that Serbia acknowledges that stability is a prerequisite for development and therefore adhere to the principles of the United Nations Charter and policy of good neighborliness. His Excellency Đurić further lauded Ghana for introducing the 24-Hour Economy Policy to help advance its economy. He assured that his country would provide additional scholarships to Ghanaian students and would consider signing an agreement on labour mobility with Ghana.
