As part of her commitment to ensuring the smooth and transparent distribution of cash grants under the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) Programme, the Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has embarked on a monitoring visit to selected payment centers in the Greater Accra Region.

This monitoring exercise aligns with her pledge to supervise the disbursement of the 94th and 95th LEAP payment cycles nationwide. During her visit, the Minister engaged with beneficiaries and payment agents to evaluate the efficiency of the process and address any challenges encountered.

The 94th and 95th LEAP cycles provide a combined payment to eligible households as follows:

One eligible member household: GHS 512.00

Two eligible member households: GHS 608.00

Three eligible member households: GHS 704.00

Speaking to the media at Nungua (Krowor Constituency),  the Minister reiterated that the LEAP Programme offers vital financial support to extremely poor households with vulnerable individuals, including orphans and vulnerable children, persons with severe disabilities, elderly individuals aged 65 and above, as well as pregnant women and nursing mothers with infants under one year.

She urged beneficiaries to prioritize critical needs such as household nutrition, children’s education, and income-generating activities, highlighting that while LEAP provides immediate financial relief, beneficiaries should also strive for long-term financial stability.

The Minister further announced that the Ministry has initiated a comprehensive reassessment of beneficiary households to verify continued eligibility and create space for new vulnerable households. This initiative is backed by the Ghana National Household Registry (GNHR), whose ongoing data collection will enhance the accuracy of targeting new beneficiaries.

She called on the media to play a pivotal role in promoting transparency and accountability in the disbursement process while amplifying awareness of the programme’s impact.

Reaffirming the government’s dedication to strengthening social protection initiatives, the Minister emphasized the commitment to improving the livelihoods of vulnerable households.

The LEAP Programme, a flagship initiative under the Ministry, provides bi-monthly cash grants to extremely poor households to meet their essential needs. The ongoing 94th and 95th payment cycles aim to reach thousands of beneficiaries across the country.

The Minister’s monitoring visit to Greater Accra is part of a nationwide exercise to ensure all eligible beneficiaries receive their cash grants.
