The Kumassah Family, together with its allied families, has formally informed the Anlo Dukor Council of the passing of Agbotadua Kumassah, a revered royal figure of Anlo.
In his private life, he was known as Mr. John Fred Kwaku Kumassah.
According to the family’s official communication dated 22nd December 2025, Agbotadua Kumassah passed away on 9th December 2025 at the Tema General Hospital, marking a significant loss to the royal lineage and the Anlo traditional area.

In keeping with Anlo customs and traditions, the family has commenced arrangements toward his burial and final funeral rites. The family indicated that full details regarding the dates, venues, and programme of events will be officially communicated to the Anlo Dukor Council once all customary and family consultations are concluded.
Given the late Agbotadua Kumassah’s status, lineage, and customary obligations, the family has respectfully sought the guidance and direction of the Anlo Dukor Council, particularly on matters relating to chieftaincy protocols, customary rites, and funeral arrangements, to ensure that he is accorded a dignified and befitting farewell in line with tradition.
The family has also assured the Council of its readiness to provide any additional information required and to cooperate fully with traditional authorities as preparations progress.

Agbotadua Kumassah is a renowned Ghanaian historian, educationist, and traditional leader.
Born in 1943 at Anyako in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region, he has had a distinguished career in education and public service.
Kumassah holds impressive academic credentials, including a Post Graduate Certificate in Education from the University of Cape Coast, a Bachelor of Arts in Geography and Sociology from the University of Ghana, and a Specialist Certificate in Geography from the University of Education, Winneba.
As an educationist, Kumassah taught in several schools, including Nifa, Adukrom, and Keta Secondary Schools, and served as the headmaster of Anlo-Afiadenyigba Secondary School from 2000 to 2003.
He retired from the Ghana Education Service in 2003.
Kumassah has also held various positions in religious, educational, social, and political spheres.
He is the current Secretary of the Anlo Agbotaduawo Traditional Council and the Agave Clan Union of Anlo.
Additionally, he was a government appointee to the first Keta District Assembly and chaired the Social Services and Culture Sub-committee.
In 1979, Kumassah was installed as Agbotadua to the Torgbui Tay Agbozo stool, and he successfully balanced his traditional responsibilities with his Christian duties.
His accomplishments have earned him recognition, including being part of the Ministry of Health-sponsored team that visited Israel in 2008 and serving as a guest lecturer in Barcelona, Spain, courtesy of the La Caixa Foundation.
