The Member of Parliament for Tema East Constituency, Ashai Odamtten, on Sunday, 17th August 2025, joined the Tema Traditional Council and the people of Tema for a colourful grand durbar of chiefs to climax the 2025 Homowo celebrations. The event, held at the Tema Newtown Lorry Station, brought together families, traditional leaders, and community stakeholders to mark the climax of one of Ghana’s most significant cultural festivals.
Homowo, which symbolizes the triumph over hunger and the celebration of a bountiful harvest, is a time-honoured tradition that unites the people of Ga-Dangme descent and reinforces the spirit of togetherness, resilience, and community development. The 2025 edition focused not only on cultural celebration but also on reflection, with the Traditional Council engaging the community on key issues and laying out expectations for the coming year.
Delivering a goodwill message during the event, Hon. Odamtten congratulated the chiefs and people of Tema on the successful organization of the festival. He commended the unity and cultural pride on display and emphasized the importance of such festivals in fostering social cohesion and development. “I extend my warmest congratulations to the people of Tema for yet another successful Homowo celebration.
This festival reminds us of our shared heritage and the strength we possess when we come together as a people. I remain committed to working hand-in-hand with the Traditional Council to address the needs of our community and build a prosperous future for all,” he said. The MP also used the occasion to wish the people a prosperous new year and called for sustained collaboration among traditional leaders, local authorities, and the citizenry in driving forward the developmental agenda of Tema.
Held under the auspices of the Tema Traditional Council, the event was graced by the Tema Mankralo and Ag. President of the Tema Traditional Council, Nii Adjetey Agbo II, as well as a host of other eminent chiefs, community leaders, and state actors.
