The Ninth Parliament of Ghana’s Fourth Republic opened its second session on February 3, 2026, with a solemn tone as the Speaker, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, paid heartfelt tribute to three recently departed Members of Parliament: Murtala Mohammed, Ernest Yaw Kumi, and Naser Toure Mahama.

In his address, Hon. Bagbin expressed deep sadness over the loss of these distinguished lawmakers, describing them as patriots who dedicated their lives to serving Ghana. He led the House in a respectful moment of silence to honor their memories, emphasizing the sacrifices and commitments made by public servants in the pursuit of national progress.

The Speaker reflected on the fragility of life and the significant void left by their departure, urging MPs to honor their legacies by upholding the values of respect, unity, and dedication. He highlighted that their passing is a stark reminder of the sacrifices inherent in public service and the importance of fostering a spirit of solidarity in the face of loss.

Hon. Bagbin called on Members to work together with renewed purpose, prioritizing national development and the well-being of the Ghanaian people. He stressed that even amid political differences, respect, love, and mutual support must prevail, especially as the country mourns its fallen heroes.

In his concluding statement, the Speaker urged the House to cherish Ghana’s democracy and to strive for a peaceful and productive session in memory of those who have laid down their lives for their country.
