In a remarkable display of talent and determination, the Ghana Rugby U12 team, known as the Eaglets, emerged victorious at the prestigious Tournoi International Marie Kore Rugby Tournament held in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. The young athletes brought home the trophy after competing against national teams from the Ivory Coast, Mali, Burkina Faso, Guinea, and Togo.
On Thursday, February 12th, 2026, the team’s President, Rafatu Inusah, accompanied by the U12 Rugby Eaglets, paid a courtesy visit to the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams. During the visit, they proudly presented the trophy to the Minister, celebrating their hard-earned victory and showcasing Ghana’s rising rugby talent.
Madam Rafatu Inusah took the opportunity to share some of the challenges faced by the team and how they managed to succeed despite obstacles. The young captain expressed pride in their achievement and emphasized the importance of resilience and teamwork.
Hon. Kofi Adams congratulated the young athletes on their outstanding performance, praising their dedication, sportsmanship, and discipline. He urged them to continue working hard, stay focused, and serve as ambassadors of Ghanaian sports. “We have the talent; what we need now are the amenities and infrastructure to nurture and develop rugby further,” he stated. “It’s also crucial to integrate rugby into our school sports programs to cultivate future stars.”
The Minister acknowledged that funding remains a challenge for many sports disciplines but assured that the government has established platforms to mobilize resources to support young athletes and sports development. He advised the U12 team members to prioritize their education, listen to their coaches, teachers, and parents, and remain disciplined both on and off the field.
The tournament, which aimed to promote rugby among youth and provide a platform for showcasing young talent, featured teams from several West African countries. The victory of the Ghana Rugby Eaglets was not just about lifting the trophy; it symbolized unity, perseverance, and national pride.
