The Speaker of Parliament, A.S.K Bagbin, is set to swear in Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed as the new Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso East Constituency.
The ceremony is scheduled to take place during a formal parliamentary session on 10th March, 2026 in the Chamber of Parliament at 12 noon.
Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, a prominent figure within the National Democratic Congress (NDC), secured his parliamentary seat after emerging victorious in the in the bye election recently held.
In a competitive race, Baba Jamal garnered a total of 431 votes, defeating his closest rival, Hajia Amina Adam, who is the widow of the late MP Naser Toure, with 399 votes.
The contest also featured other contenders, including Mohammed Ramme, who received 88 votes; Dr. Yakubu Azindow, with 45 votes; and Mohammed Najib, who garnered just 1 vote. Baba Jamal’s decisive win accentuates his popularity within Area.
Baba Jamal, a former Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, has previously served in various diplomatic and political roles, making him a well-known figure in Ghanaian political circles. His victory in the bye-election was seen as a significant step toward consolidating the NDC’s influence in the Ayawaso East constituency.
The swearing-in ceremony will be attended by NDC bigwigs including the National Chairman himself Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketa and the national General Secretary, Mr. Fifi Fiafi Kwetey and constituents who are eager to see their new representative take office.
Baba Jamal is expected to focus on development initiatives and advocate for the needs of his constituents in and around Nima.
