The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) Campus Connect initiative has arrived at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), launching a week-long outreach aimed at bringing health insurance education, digital services, and membership registration directly to students.

The initiative forms part of the National Health Insurance Authority’s (NHIA) broader strategy to strengthen youth engagement and deepen awareness of the benefits of the Scheme among Ghana’s growing student population.

The programme opened with a collaboration conference themed “Developing Competent Leaders for a Changing World.” The event featured the Chief Executive of the NHIA, Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, as the guest speaker.

Addressing students, Dr. Bampoe reiterated the founding vision behind the National Health Insurance Scheme.

“The National Health Insurance Scheme was created with a very simple but powerful vision: no Ghanaian should be denied healthcare because they cannot afford it,” he said.

He explained that the Campus Connect initiative reflects the Authority’s commitment to meeting young people where they are and building a strong culture of health security among students.

“Campus Connect is built on a simple idea: healthcare information and services should not wait for young people to come looking for them. The system must go where young people are directly to campuses creating opportunities for dialogue and understanding,” he added.

In his welcome address, the SRC President of UEW, Ebenezer Annobil, encouraged students to actively participate in the engagement.

“I encourage you to listen attentively, engage boldly, and take seriously the lessons that will emerge,” he said.

The engagement was attended by key officials of the National Health Insurance Authority, including Director of Corporate Affairs, Oswald Essuah-Mensah; Head of Communications, Faustina Dery; Angela Asiedu, Esq., Deputy Director for Marketing and Branding; and Executive Assistant to the CEO, Nina Amoah Buabeng, who joined the team to support the outreach.

The host region was represented by the Central Regional Director, Kojo Koi Sekyere Thompson, and Abena Esia-Donkoh, Head of the Claims Processing Centre (CPC), Cape Coast, alongside the .management and staff from the Agona (AGN Swedru), Awutu Senya East (AWE–Kasoa), Gomoa (GOM–Apam), and Awutu Effutu Senya (AES–Winneba) districts.
