The Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee, Abena Osei Asare, has called for stricter enforcement of the Ghana Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS) to enhance transparency and accountability in the Public Financial Management.

Hon. Osei Asare also raised concerns about some challenges in documentation and record-keeping, urging institutions to adopt better practices. She noted that strengthening these systems would support effective governance, financial discipline and contribute to national development.

She made these remarks at the end of a four-day public hearing on the Special Audit Report of the Auditor-General on Government Outstanding Claims and Commodities as at 31s December 2024.

Ministries of Health, Environment, Science and Technology, Works and Housing, Fisheries, RTI Commission and Legal Aide were the institutions that appeared before the Committee.

The Committee is expected to hold its Zonal public hearings at selected regions across the country in the coming weeks.
