Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, has engaged Ghana’s diaspora community in Vic, Spain, following her participation in the 4th High-Level Meeting of the Initiative in Defence of Democracy.
The Vice President was joined by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and Ghana’s Ambassador to Spain, H.E. Kalsoume Sinare Baffoe, as she met with members of the Ghanaian community, including traditional leaders, the Ghana Union, and various associations across provinces.
Conveying warm greetings from President Mahama, she commended Ghanaians in Spain for upholding a positive national image and reaffirmed government’s commitment to strengthening engagement with the diaspora.
The Vice President also briefed the community on key developments back home, including ongoing efforts to stabilise the economy, reduce inflation, and maintain fiscal discipline, alongside government’s broader agenda to transition Ghana into a value-added, production-driven economy under the Big Push initiative.
She further highlighted priority interventions in agriculture to boost local production and reduce imports, as well as major social programmes such as the No-Fees Stress Policy for first-year tertiary students, free sanitary pads for schoolgirls, and expanded primary healthcare access.
Additional initiatives, including the Goldbod programme, the phased implementation of the 24-hour economy, and the establishment of the Women’s Development Bank, were also outlined as part of government’s commitment to inclusive growth and national transformation.
Vice President Opoku-Agyemang expressed appreciation for the warm reception and encouraged the diaspora to remain united and actively engaged in Ghana’s development, reaffirming government’s commitment to supporting their welfare and strengthening ties with Ghanaians abroad.
