NADMO has officially launched an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered chatbot to strengthen multi-hazard disaster risk communication in Ghana.
Developed in partnership with UNESCO and funded by the Government of Japan, the platform will provide citizens with 24/7 access to real-time hazard updates and allow emergencies to be reported directly to NADMO.
Speaking at the launch, Director General of NADMO, Major Dr. Joseph Bikanyi Kuyon (Rtd), said the initiative would greatly improve disaster preparedness and response efforts.
Head of UNESCO Ghana Office, Mr. Edmond Moukala, emphasized that effective communication is key to disaster risk reduction, adding that informed citizens are better equipped to protect lives and property.
Performing the official launch on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Hon. Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, the Chief Director for the Ministry of the Interior, Mrs. Doreen Annan described the initiative as timely, especially as climate change continues to increase the frequency and severity of floods, droughts, storms, and other disasters.
The ceremony ended with a live demonstration of how the chatbot works.
