Former Dome-Kwabenya MP Hon. Adwoa Safo is receiving medical treatment after gunmen allegedly opened fire on her vehicle on Sunday near the residence of her younger brother, Israel Kwadwo Safo, also known as Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena.
According to reports, the incident occurred at the premises of Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena’s home while he was reportedly organizing supporters in connection with efforts to install him as successor to their late father, Apostle Emeritus Kwadwo Safo.
Witnesses claim Adwoa Safo was present in the area when armed men allegedly acting on the orders of her brother discharged about 15 rounds of ammunition. One bullet reportedly grazed her near the neck.
She was rushed to hospital and sources close to her say she is in stable condition.
Police from the Dome District Command were alerted and deployed to the scene as tensions escalated.
The shooting comes amid growing tensions within the Kristo Asafo family over succession of the late Apostle Emeritus Kwadwo Safo.
The succession process has already become the subject of legal disputes, with some family members challenging attempts to install Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena as the next leader of the Kristo Asafo Mission.
As of press time, the Ghana Police Service had not issued an official statement.
Investigations are expected to be launched to ascertain the circumstances and identify those responsible.
