Tensions within the Kristo Asafo Mission have escalated after unknown persons opened fire on a vehicle linked to former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sara Adjoa Safo on Sunday.
The attack reportedly occurred near the residence of her younger brother, Israel Kwadwo Safo aka Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena, amid a dispute over succession to their late father, Apostle Emeritus Kwadwo Safo.
Ghana Police Service confirmed that six persons have been arrested in connection with the incident.
They are assisting investigations into the shooting that left the former MP grazed near the neck.
Police say she is in stable condition and receiving treatment.
The Dome District Command deployed officers to the scene as tensions rose during a gathering of supporters for the succession process.
The process is already before the courts, with some family members challenging Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena’s installation as leader.
Police are yet to release official details on the identities of those arrested or the motive behind the attack.
Investigations are ongoing.
