The Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, Stephen Amoah publicly rejected a recent performance ranking that placed him among Ghana’s lowest-rated legislators, listing dozens of constituency projects he says prove otherwise.
The lawmaker, whose constituency appears on Global InfoAnalytics’ list of 10 least-performing constituencies, addressed the media in an impromptu press conference to challenge the findings of pollster Mussa Dankwa.
“I’m extremely surprised,” he said. “When it comes to MP, your core function is what you do in parliament. My work here on the floor—I don’t think you can sit here and judge me and place me in the low-performance category.”
The MP cited several parliamentary contributions, including a statement on “a major economic fundamental anomaly” in the domestic market, a proposal to include entrepreneurship in senior high school curricula, and a recent call for a “paradigm shift from free market economy to mixed market economy.”
But his defence went far beyond the floor of Parliament, cataloguing what he described as extensive development projects in his constituency.
Scholarships and Education
Stephen Amoah claimed to have provided over 1,000 scholarships to constituents and supplied computers to all secondary schools in the area, including KSTS, Opoku Ware, and Prophora Secondary School. He also said he had rehabilitated dilapidated classroom blocks, including one where “everything—roofing sheets, wood, windows, doors, the floor—everything ended with new.”
“I have provided about 800 machines—sewing machines, vulcanizing machines, and dressmaking machines—to constituents,” he added. “We have trained about 1,000 youth and women in how to make pie, how to use beads to produce bags and shoes.”
Infrastructure and Sports
The MP said he had secured astroturf for the constituency, noting that before his tenure, “they had no astroturf.” He claimed the facility now “qualifies for a World Cup because of the size and how it was made.”
He also listed roads, water projects, and security initiatives, including the distribution of “bean rinks” (speed bumps) placed at strategic positions across the constituency.
Common Fund and Personal Contributions
“I can tell you, go and check your records—I am either the best or one of the best users of my common fund,” he asserted.
He said he had established a health fund for party activists and coordinators, managed by the beneficiaries themselves with bank accounts, and that he had provided seed capital to market women in the Santasen market.
Questioning the Poll’s Methodology
The MP questioned the basis of the Global InfoAnalytics survey, suggesting that researchers should have consulted headmasters and teachers rather than relying on unknown respondents.
“If you ask the headmasters and the teachers, the way they praised me, there is no way they would not give me an excellent mark,” he said.
He also challenged the poll’s criteria, noting that it included factors like currency stabilization and roads—issues he said fall under the remit of central government, not individual MPs.
“I think we are doing this nation a great disservice,” he said. “The people who are doing good things in Ghana are not seen or praised, except those who are using lies and deception.”
‘Very Dangerous and Demotivating’
The MP described the rating as “very demotivating” and “very dangerous,” warning that such rankings could discourage hardworking legislators.
“I believe in myself that with my performance, with this sex, and with the opportunity I had, what I’ve done—I don’t think you can get more than 10 MPs to do what I’ve done,” he said.
He concluded by inviting the public and the pollsters to verify his claims: “You can go and check. If I’m a weak performer or a low performer, you judge for yourself.”
Global InfoAnalytics’ June 2026 survey assessed MPs across 83 constituencies, with Frank Annoh-Dompreh of Nsawam-Adoagyiri emerging as the top performer. The poll has sparked debate, with some questioning its methodology and credibility.
