The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has commenced a three day working visit to the Northern Region and North East Regions to monitor the ongoing Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) Beneficiary Enrolment (a.k.a. LEAP Onboarding), and engage key stakeholders on the implementation of the programme.
The Minister is accompanied by members of the Ministry’s Advisory Board and some Management staff as part of the monitoring process, which seeks to assess the progress of the nationwide LEAP enrolment and expansion exercise.
As part of activities on the first visit, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey paid a courtesy call on the Chief of Fuo, Abdulai Neindow in the Sagnerigu Municipality before visiting the community’s LEAP enrolment centre.
At the Enrolment site in Fuo, the Minister interacted with beneficiaries, registration officials and community members while observing the enrolment process to assess the efficiency of operations and ensure that eligible households are enrolled in a transparent manner.
Addressing the media, the Gender Minister explained that the monitoring exercise forms part of the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring the successful implementation of the expanded LEAP programme, which aims to onboard 400,000 beneficiary households nationwide.
She noted that the exercise provides the Ministry with the opportunity to assess field operations, identify operational challenges, and implement timely interventions to improve service delivery.
Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey further underscored the importance of the nationwide LEAP reassessment, explaining that it was undertaken to update beneficiary data, strengthen the integrity of the programme, and ensure that support reaches the most vulnerable households. She stressed that the reassessment would help minimise inclusion and exclusion errors thereby promoting fairness, accountability and effective targeting of social protection interventions.
The three day working visit will also see the Minister engage other stakeholders across the Northern and North East Regions to monitor the progress of the exercise and also visit the Gambaga Alleged Witches Camp.
