The Speaker of Parliament has received the 2026 Democracy Cup trophy , formally launching the countdown to the third edition of the prestigious football showdown between Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko.
The event, which the Speaker conceived and championed, will take place on Friday,28th August 2026 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

With the first two editions shared equally,Kotoko lifting the inaugural cup in 2024 and Hearts responding with victory in 2025.
This year’s clash promises to be a decisive final, with the winner taking a permanent lead in the head-to-head record of this celebrated tournament.

In his response at the handover ceremony, the Rt Hon Speaker expressed profound gratitude to the Ghana Football Association and the leadership of both clubs for their continued support of the vision behind the Democracy Cup.
He urged players, officials, and fans to treat the match as a celebration of national unity and democratic maturity.
“A football match, like an election, has winners and losers, but the bond of our nation must never break at the final whistle,” he stated. “Let us show the world that Ghana can compete fiercely yet remain united, peaceful, and proud. I urge all Ghanaians to come out in numbers to Baba Yara and witness a spectacle that reflects the true spirit of our democracy” he stated.

The 28th of August therefore promises not only a titanic battle between Ghana’s two biggest clubs but also a powerful statement of civic responsibility and national pride, with the Baba Yara Stadium set to host what many expect to be one of the most memorable Super Clashes in Ghanaian football history.
