Chiefs and people of the Agortime Traditional Area have made history by naming one of their most outstanding Kente cloths after Mrs. Joyce Buah, wife of the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Kofi Armah Buah.
The historic naming ceremony took place during the 2026 Agortime Kente Festival at Kpetoe, celebrated under the theme “Honouring Our Heritage – Safeguarding Our Future.”
The new cloth, named “Dzidzor” — meaning _Joy_ in the Ewe language — was unveiled after the Minister’s representative, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Commission in Charge of Small Scale Mining and Industrial Minerals, Maxwell Yao Akpene Klu competitively purchased the latest design woven by the 2026 Best Kente Weaver for GHS 20,000.
The Minister also supported the festival with an additional Ghc 20,000 as an invited Guest.
The announcement drew heavy applause from celebrants who described it as a significant honour to the Minister’s family and a boost to the Agortime weaving tradition.
With this, the Agortime people now have a Kente cloth called “Dzidzor” added to the existing Kente designs in Ghana.
Speaking to fmnewsonline.com on behalf of the Minister and the Wife Mr Klu expressed joy and gratitude to the Chiefs, the MP for Agortime-Ziope, the DCE, and the people of Agortime-Ziope for the honour done to the Minister and his wife.
The Agortime Kente Festival is celebrated annually to promote the rich cultural heritage of the Agortime people, who are credited as the originators of Kente weaving in Ghana.
