Builsa North MP James Agalga has formally assumed the position of Majority Leader in Parliament, pledging to build consensus and provide effective leadership as he steers government business through the House.
Mr. Agalga expressed his appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama, the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and members of the Majority Caucus for the confidence reposed in him.
In a statement following his formal introduction and acceptance of the new role, the Builsa North Member of Parliament acknowledged the significant responsibilities ahead, particularly the task of advancing the government’s Reset Agenda and translating its commitments into tangible benefits for Ghanaians.
“We have a lot of work ahead of us to make the RESET Agenda a lived reality for every Ghanaian family,” Mr. Agalga said.
He pledged to work closely with members of the Majority Caucus, the Minority, and other stakeholders in Parliament to build consensus and facilitate the passage of legislation necessary to implement the government’s programme.
“The work begins now. Ghana will win,” he added.
Mr. Agalga’s elevation follows a reshuffle of the NDC Majority Caucus leadership, which saw his predecessor, Mahama Ayariga, move from Parliament into government as Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
As Majority Leader, Mr. Agalga assumes a pivotal role in coordinating the government’s legislative agenda, scheduling government business and guiding key bills and policy initiatives through Parliament.
His immediate challenge will be to consolidate unity within the Majority Caucus while fostering constructive engagement across the political divide to ensure that Parliament effectively addresses the government’s priorities under the Reset Agenda.
With his new position, Mr. Agalga becomes a key figure in the government’s legislative machinery and will be expected to combine parliamentary strategy, consensus-building and effective coordination to deliver on its agenda.
