Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) Partners GNPC to Receive Historic 950,000 Barrels of Sankofa Crude Oil via Sonangol Cazenga.
A Ghanaian Crude, supplied through GNPC, processed at TOR and converted into fuel products for the Ghanaian Consumer.
This represent another important milestone in the successful restart and continued operation of Tema Oil Refinery and demonstrates what can be accomplished when Strategic Stage Agencies work together.
Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), in partnership with the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), has received a historic 950,000 barrels of Light Sweet Crude Oil from the Sankofa-Gyre Nyame Field from the OCTP in Sanzule in the Western Region marking a significant milestone in Ghana’s efforts to strengthen domestic refining capacity and enhance energy security.
The landmark shipment represents an important step in realizing H.E President John Dramani Mahama’s reset vision of linking Ghana’s Upstream with the Mid and Downstream by ensuring all the value in Ghana’s petroleum resources is added in retained in Ghana to benefit the Ghanaian people.
This has deepened collaboration between two key players in Ghana’s petroleum industry, the GNPC and TOR and reinforces the strategic importance of local crude oil resources to the country’s energy sector.
The Managing Director of TOR noted that the partnership demonstrates the potential for stronger cooperation between upstream and downstream petroleum operators to improve crude oil supply, support refinery operations and create greater value from Ghana’s natural resources.
He further disclosed that this is the first time a Ghanaian refinery would receive a parcel of crude oil from the Sankofa Field for refining. He described the receipt of this Crude from GNPC as an important opportunity for TOR to strengthen its operations while contributing to Ghana’s broader objective of building a resilient and sustainable petroleum industry.
The development also highlights the importance of leveraging Ghana’s indigenous petroleum resources to support local refining, deepen industry collaboration and retain more value within the domestic economy.
GNPC and TOR are discussing to deepen collaboration in other areas and work together for the mutual benefit of both Agencies and the Ghanaian People.
The MD of TOR thanked H.E President John Dramani Mahama for his visionary leadership, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, Minister for Energy for his leadership and the CEO and Management of GNPC for their partnership.
He also thanked the Refinery’s Tolling Partners Fujeirah and Triangle Commodities Trading (TCT) for their continued support and commitment to TOR.
