The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has confirmed the voluntary surrender and arrest of the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, *Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah*.
In a news release dated *1st October, 2026* and signed by the Head of Corporate Affairs and Public Education for the Executive Director, EOCO said the MP, who is Senior Partner of Sarkodie, Baffour Awuah and Partners, surrendered himself at the EOCO head office at approximately 10:00am on Wednesday to assist investigators in ongoing investigations.
EOCO said his appearance follows several months of efforts to secure his attendance.
According to the release, the investigation relates to allegations including criminal conspiracy, financial loss to SIC Savings and Loans, money laundering, tax-related offences and other matters under investigation.
“The Office subsequently commenced the applicable investigative and operational procedures in respect of Mr. Baffour Awuah. In accordance with those procedures, Mr. Baffour Awuah was subsequently placed under arrest and is currently cooperating with investigators as the investigative process proceeds,” the statement said.
EOCO has assured the public that its investigations will progress professionally, independently and in accordance with due process.
“The Office will continue to pursue all relevant lines of inquiry, examine the available evidence and afford all persons involved their rights under the Constitution and applicable laws,” EOCO added.
The Office urged the public to allow the investigative and judicial processes to proceed without speculation or premature conclusions regarding the culpability of any individual.
It will be recalled that an Accra High Court on September 30, 2026* issued a warrant authorizing EOCO to arrest the MP and to search and seize relevant documents after EOCO told the court it had exhausted all reasonable means to secure his attendance. The arrest follows a failed attempt to arrest the MP at the Accra High Court premises on September 23.
The MP has previously maintained that the probe relates to his former law firm’s client relationship with SIC Life Savings and Loans.
