Parliamentary aspirant John-Mark Awuye has conceded defeat and expressed heartfelt gratitude to delegates and supporters following the Ketu South NDC constituency elections.
In a statement after the polls, Mr. Awuye thanked party members for their support during three months of intensive campaigning across the 41 wards of the constituency, where he said he interacted with close to 3,000 delegates, party elders, cadres and grassroots activists.
“I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you for the immense support, dedication, sacrifices, prayers, and hard work that have brought us this far,” he stated.
Mr. Awuye also apologized to anyone he may have offended during the campaign period, calling for unity within the party.
“To everyone I encountered during this journey, I sincerely apologise if, in any way, my words, actions, or interactions offended or hurt you. We are one family, and no political contest should be allowed to destroy the bonds of brotherhood and sisterhood that unite us,” he said.
He congratulated all winners and encouraged unsuccessful contestants to remain strong, noting that “an electoral contest does not diminish anyone’s worth, commitment, or contribution to our great party.”
The aspirant commended his ward coordinators, campaign team members and volunteers for their sacrifices, adding that their commitment will never be taken for granted.
“Although this chapter of our journey has come to an end, our commitment to the development of Ketu South and the progress of our party must continue. Let us put the contest behind us, embrace one another, and move forward,” he added.
Mr. Awuye lost narrowly to incumbent Chairman Abelia Seth Kwasi, who secured 1,075 votes* against Awuye’s 816 votes. Sorokpo Daniel Jerry came third with 508 votes.
A total of 2,399 valid votes were recorded, with 10 rejected ballots, bringing the total votes cast to 2,409.
Mr. Awuye concluded by calling for unity: “At the end of the day, Ketu South has won once again!”
