The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has commissioned a new district office in Ejura-Sekyedumase in the Ashanti Region, reaffirming its commitment to bringing quality and accessible NHIS services closer to members.
The new office, commissioned by the Chief Executive of the NHIA, Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, is expected to improve service delivery, ease congestion and provide a more convenient environment for members to access services, including registration, membership renewal and complaints resolution.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Dr. Bampoe thanked President John Dramani Mahama, the Minister of Finance, and the Minister of Health for their support in strengthening the Authority’s operations.
He emphasised that the new facility represents more than an improvement in infrastructure; it also demonstrates a renewed commitment to improving the quality of services delivered to NHIS members.
The NHIA CEO commended the Ejura-Sekyedumase District Office for achieving over 89 per cent of its set target, an improvement over its previous performance. He, however, encouraged staff to intensify their efforts to achieve even better results.
On illegal charges at healthcare facilities, Dr. Bampoe was emphatic that no NHIA-credentialed health facility has the right to charge NHIS members for services covered under the Scheme. He stressed that the Authority would not tolerate such practices and indicated that the NHIA now has the authority to sanction facilities found culpable of charging members illegally.

Dr. Bampoe further announced that the One-Time Access Code (OTAC) system would soon be rolled out in the Ashanti Region as part of efforts to strengthen accountability and curb fraudulent claims. The system is designed to authenticate members’ attendance at healthcare facilities and improve the verification of services provided. He urged staff to familiarise themselves with the system and prepare adequately for its implementation.
The CEO also charged staff to demonstrate discipline, professionalism and excellent customer service in their interactions with members, stressing the importance of building strong relationships with the public.
He reiterated that the new edifice must represent more than an improved physical structure; it must also translate into improved service delivery, greater accountability and a better experience for every NHIS member.
The commissioning marks another step in the NHIA’s efforts to expand access to its services and improve members’ experience across the country.
The ceremony was attended by the Chief of Ejura-Sekyedumase, Nana Barima Osei Hwedie; the Member of Parliament for Ejura-Sekyedumase, Hon. Alhaji Bawa Brimah; the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Rafiu Adam Seidu; the NHIA Regional Director, Hon. Alhaji Muniru Muntaka; and other dignitaries all giving thanks to the CEO and board of NHIA for their efforts towards improving the scheme.`
