Parliament this evening witnessed an ugly scene when the Speaker of the House, S.K Alban Bagbin got infuriated and sacked the NPP Member of Parliament for Damango, Samuel Abu Jinapor from the Chamber while proceeding was ongoing.
His crime
The MP had alleged that Diplomatic Passport were been sold to an ordinary people between 10,000. 00 and 20, 000.00 Ghana Cedis.
At this juncture, the Majority Leader, James Agalga asked the MP to substantiate his allegations with evidence or he should do the needful by withdrawing the allegations.
The Speaker, asked the MP in question to withdraw the allegation and come back later with supporting evidence.
But the MP wanted to know which part of the statement he should withdraw, the Speaker got furious and charged the Marshal to escort him out of the Chamber. “I am not going to tolerate this thing again. I am not going to renege on it, Marshal take him out of this house!” Speaker ordered. The MP however, withdrew the allegations.
However, since the Speaker had already made his decision, he saw to it that his orders were comply with.
Subsequently, the Marshal walked the NPP MP out, with alacrity, enthusiasm and zeal.
Moment after the MP had been escorted out of the Chamber, The Speaker left the Chair for his First Deputy, Bernard Ahiafor.
Minority walks out
Unhappy with the Speaker’s decision, the Minority Caucus walked out of the Chamber in solidarity with their colleague, this attracted boos from the Majority side.
Press conference
Later at a news conference with Parliamentary Press corps to explain their action, The Minority Leader, Osahene Alexander Afenyo-Markin described the Speakers’ action as highhanded, harsh and unfair.
He accused the Speaker of been harsh to the Minority side but with the Majority, he has not reprimanded any of them even though they make much noise on the flood.
It will be recalled that in the 8th Parliament, the same Speaker ordered Dr. Kwaku Afriyie NPP member for Sefwi Wiawso to be expelled from the Chamber over a comment, “it does not lie in your mouth” to the Speaker.
