The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has embarked on a massive clean-up exercise at key locations in the Central Business District (CBD), including the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park and Mausoleum, Asafoatse Nettey Road, Rawlings Park, and the Agbogbloshie Lorry Park.

The exercise held on Friday, February 28, 2025, was organised in line with President John Dramani Mahama’s Reset Agenda for the reintroduction of National Sanitation Day, and under the auspices of the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council (GARCC) formed part of the maiden edition of the Regional Sanitation Day, aimed at improving sanitation in the metropolis ahead of the March 6th Independence Day celebrations.

Speaking after the exercise, Engineer Solomon Noi, Director of Waste Management at the AMA, on behalf of the Coordinating Director, Douglas N.K Annoful emphasised that the initiative was part of ongoing efforts to maintain cleanliness in the metropolis and urged traders and the public to stop disposing of waste indiscriminately, particularly throwing refuse in plastic bags onto the streets.

He explained that for this particular clean-up, and because of the duration, the scope of work was sweeping, weeding, brushing, except desilting.

Touching on the sustainability of the initiative, Engineer Noi disclosed that the Regional Sanitation Day would be observed on the last Friday of every month and would be rotated across the three Sub-Metropolitan Areas of the AMA—Ashiedu Keteke, Ablekuma South, and Okaikoi South.
