The Ghanaian government recently hosted a courtesy call with representatives from the British Council, led by Mr. Richard Kwasi Shiangbor, the Director of Programmes and Partnerships, to discuss the 5th UK Study Alumni Awards in Ghana. The awards are an inspiring initiative designed to recognize outstanding UK alumni who have made significant contributions across various fields.

The UK Study Alumni Awards, which have expanded to over 100 countries and will run in 23 nations in 2025, serve as a global recognition of the transformative power of international education and cross-border collaboration. In 2026, the winners of the awards will have the opportunity to gain exclusive professional networking opportunities in the UK, further enhancing the partnerships between nations.

During the meeting, the Ghanaian representative expressed excitement about the opportunities presented by the awards, acknowledging the positive impact the winners’ work could have on both Ghana and the broader international community. He commended the British Council for its commitment to fostering knowledge exchange between the UK and Ghana, particularly in the fields of innovation, social impact, and sustainability.

“The role of alumni in driving change is invaluable,” said the representative. “Beyond recognition, structured backing is essential to turning great ideas into meaningful change.”

The government representative expressed his full support for the British Council’s initiatives, pledging to connect them with key stakeholders, investors, and policymakers to help turn these initiatives into tangible successes. Additionally, he shared his vision for the Volta Region, highlighting plans to sponsor students from the region to pursue higher education through a collaborative partnership between his office and the British Council.

“Education is a powerful tool for change,” the representative added. “I am committed to creating opportunities that empower young minds and drive sustainable development in Ghana and beyond.”
