The Ghana Premier League (GPL) will officially resume on Friday, March 7, 2025, as confirmed by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

The announcement was made on Wednesday, February 26, following a three-week suspension due to incidents of hooliganism that disrupted the league. The GFA stated that the league’s return is contingent on a safety and security inspection of all venues, which is currently being carried out in collaboration with the Ministry for Sports and Recreation.

In preparation for the resumption, the GFA has been conducting training for stakeholders on the Enhanced Matchday Safety and Security Protocols 2025. These measures aim to prevent any future hooligan incidents at stadiums.

The league had been paused after Asante Kotoko requested improved security protocols following the tragic death of fan Francis Nana Pooley Frimpong during their league match in Nsoatre. The Porcupine Warriors had previously expressed their concerns and the FA has since worked on addressing these issues. Earlier this week, Kotoko confirmed their readiness to return to competitive action after the unfortunate incident, with their first match scheduled for March 6.

In line with the resumption, the GFA also announced the schedule for the upcoming fixtures. Matchday 20 will take place from Tuesday, March 18 to Thursday, March 20, followed by Matchday 21 from Tuesday, April 1 to Thursday, April 3. Matchday 22 is set for Tuesday, April 15 to Thursday, April 17, 2025.
