President John Dramani Mahama the newly appointed Inspector–General of the Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno to deal with alleged corruption within the Ghana Police Service, urged him to be firm, transparent, and answerable when enforcing the law.

The president stressed that unethical practices within the service have eroded public confidence and weakened the foundation of the justice system as he added, “Mr. IGP, your role will also involve rooting out corruption within the service,” he stated.

The President who was speaking at the swearing ceremony at the Jubilee House in Accra on Friday, 14, March, 2024acknowleged the damaging effects of corruption on justice and public trust.

 

 “Corruption in law enforcement undermines justice and weakens public confidence in our security agencies,” he added.

He however, admonished the new IGP to take decisive action against all forms of misconduct, from bribery to abuse of power, ensuring that officers uphold integrity in their duties.

“It is crucial that all forms of unethical behavior, from bribery to the abuse of power, are decisively dealt with,” he said.

Mahama further highlighted the need for a transparent and accountable police service that prioritizes the interests of the public, reinforcing the government’s commitment to strengthening law enforcement institutions.
