Dr. Sebastian Ngmenenso Sandaare, Member of Parliament for Daffiama-Bussie-Issa, has praised the government’s commitment to strengthening Ghana’s healthcare system through key policies outlined in the 2025 budget.

Speaking in Parliament, Dr. Sandaare highlighted the allocation of GH¢292.4 million to provide free sanitary pads to female students in primary and secondary schools, describing it as a significant step in promoting menstrual health and education access.

He also commended the government’s decision to uncap the National Health Insurance Levy (NHIL), ensuring a full allocation of GH¢9.93 billion to support critical areas of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

These include claim payments, the procurement of essential medicines and vaccines, the implementation of Free Primary Healthcare, and the newly introduced Ghana Medical Care Trust (MahamaCares). The funding will also help bridge the financing shortfall resulting from reduced support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

Dr. Sandaare noted that under the Earmarked Funds Capping and Realignment Act, 2017 (Act 947), the NHIL and Road Fund will now receive their full allocations, strengthening essential healthcare financing and infrastructure projects.

He further emphasized the government’s dedication to expanding social protection, citing the introduction of new intervention programs such as Free Primary Healthcare, the Ghana Medical Care Trust (MahamaCares), and the Free Sanitary Pads initiative for schoolgirls.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment, he declared: “We promised to uncap the NHIL – we have delivered! We committed to Free Primary Healthcare – we are delivering!”

The MP urged all stakeholders to support these initiatives, stressing that they will play a vital role in improving healthcare access and social welfare across the country.
