In a significant development, the Supreme Court has adjourned the hearing of an application seeking to injunct the ongoing process for determining a Prima Facie case concerning petitions for the removal of the Chief Justice. The adjournment was prompted by the absence of the Attorney General, who had secured an excuse from the Chief Justice, citing ongoing training for lawyers at the Attorney General’s office from April 7 to April 10.

The Attorney General’s request for an adjournment sparked surprise from Godfred Yeboah Dame, representing Vincent Ekow Asafuah, the plaintiff in the matter. Dame questioned the decision of Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine and his deputy, Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, to be absent due to a training workshop for state Attorneys.

The plaintiff seeks a Supreme Court declaration that the president’s decision to consult the Council of State on the determination of Prima Facie without first seeking the Chief Justice’s response is unconstitutional. The case has been adjourned indefinitely, with Justice Henrietta Mensah Bonsu presiding over the court.

This high-profile case has generated considerable interest in the legal community, with many eagerly awaiting the court’s decision. The adjournment has raised questions about the future of the Chief Justice and the potential implications for Ghana’s judicial system. The case’s outcome will have far-reaching consequences, and the court’s ultimate ruling will be closely watched.
