Some members of the fitness industry including the Afrofit Global foundation, Sports for All Association and functional sports group called on the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams on Friday 11th April, 2025 at the Ministry to discuss possible collaborative plans that is geared towards the promotion of fitness across the country.

Speaking at the meeting, the Executive Director of Afrofit Global, Mr. Johnson Otoo noted that, it was a privilege for them to meet the Minister and laid down plans the foundation had initiated to help enrol and encourage individuals to take fitness and their wellbeing very seriously.

He said, he was working with the sports for All Association and the functional sports group to organise regular fitness programs for the benefit of Ghanaians in general and in turn create the awareness of the public on the enormous benefits of keeping fit.

He used the opportunity to invite the Minister to the upcoming walk being organised by his outfit in collaboration with his partners dubbed “Gofit Ghana Initiative” which is expected to attract Ghanaians from all walks of life and the initiative to inculcate the spirit of exercising to the public by encouraging Ghanaians to regularly engage themselves in fitness activities adding that, the walk will be preceded with a press launch which is scheduled for 1st May, 2025.

In his welcome remarks, the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams indicated the Ministry’s readiness to support such a great initiative which aligns with the Ministry’s mandate stressing the importance of fitness to every individual.

The Minister further underscored the need for Ghanaians to cultivate the habit of exercising and keeping fit noting that, fitness improves the health status of individuals and reduces the risk of contracting non communicable diseases thereby reducing the health bill of individuals as well as the government.

He advised Afrofit and its partners to take sustainability of their initiative into consideration and ensure that, the initiative does not become a nine-day wonder stating the Ministry’s full support for the success of the program adding that they must begin to hold talks to celebrities and influencers to help publicise the program to attract a lot of people.

Present at the meeting was the Chief Director of the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, Mr. William Kartey and other senior officials of the Ministry.

Accompanying the Executive Director were the President of Sports for All Association, Nana Adu Mankata II, the Executive Director of Afrofit Global UK, Ewurama Boadi and the President of Functional Sports, Mr. Charles Owusu-Ansah.
