Harnessing the Power of Okomfo Anokye’s Legacy

Okoto drew inspiration from Israel’s tourism industry, which has thrived on its historical and cultural significance. He believes Ghana can similarly leverage the legendary Okomfo Anokye’s legacy to boost tourism. The historic House of Okomfo Anokye in Awukugua, Akuapem, is a prime example of a site that could be developed to attract tourists.

Unique Festivals and Attractions

Akuapem boasts an array of unique festivals, including:

Ohum/Odwira festivals
Aburi Gardens

These attractions, coupled with the region’s safe environment, pleasant weather, and hospitable people, make Akuapem an attractive investment destination.

Key Areas for Development

To unlock Akuapem’s tourism potential, Okoto emphasizes the need for:

Infrastructure development: Improving roads, accommodations, and amenities
Cultural preservation: Protecting and promoting Akuapem’s cultural heritage sites and traditions
Community engagement: Involving local communities in tourism development
Effective marketing strategies: Promoting Akuapem’s tourism potential through branding and marketing

By showcasing Akuapem’s rich cultural heritage and natural beauty, Ghana can create jobs, stimulate economic growth, and promote cross-cultural understanding. The time is ripe for the government and investors to tap into Akuapem’s vast tourism potential and unlock its economic benefits.
