The 2025 Paragliding Festival officially commenced on Friday, 18th April 2025, at the Odweanoma Paragliding Site in Kwahu-Atibie in the Eastern Region of Ghana. The annual festival, which draws both local and international tourists, has become a key highlight of the Easter celebrations for the people of Kwahu and, by extension, Ghanaians. The event offers a thrilling airborne experience and showcases the vibrant culture of the Kwahu area.

For this year’s event, the team of pilots comprised a Ghanaian and six other foreign nationals from the United States of America. Germany, Peru and Romania

In a speech read on behalf of the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts by her Deputy, Hon. Yussif Issaka Jajah at the opening of this year’s Paragliding Festival, she stated that over the years, the festival has grown to become one of Ghana’s flagship tourism events, attracting thousands of adventure enthusiasts, families and tourists from all walks of life.

She said the event showcases not only the thrill of flight but also the beauty, warmth, and hospitality that Ghana is known for.

She added that there was a need for the Ghana Tourism Authority to collaborate with the team to train more Ghanaians as pilots as part of efforts to boost the tourism industry in the country.

The Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, said her region was blessed with vast natural resources, rich culture and welcoming people. It was therefore the collective responsibility and duty of the various stakeholders to harness such natural resources to strengthen the advancement of such communities in the country. She added that the Paragliding Festival highlights the potential of tourism in driving economic growth, creating jobs and promoting the cultural heritage of the people.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Mrs Maame Efua Houadjeto, added her voice and said her organisation was committed to making Ghana the leading tourist destination in West Africa, with the Paragliding Festival playing a key role in helping to achieve that goal.
