A delegation led by the Volta Region’s representative on the Council of State
Gabriel Kwamigah Atople also known as Chief Tanko, embarked on a tour of various communities in the Region over the weekend for possible investment in the agriculture Sector of the local economy
The visit aimed to identify potential investment opportunities in agriculture that could create jobs for the youth and stimulate local economic growth.
As a successful rice farmer and Council of State representative, the delegation’s focus was on unlocking investment opportunities that could bring positive change to the communities and the country.
He led the team to visit communities like Weta, Afife, Avalavi, Atiteti, and surrounding areas known for large-scale rice farming and sugarcane cultivation.
Chief Tanko on Facebook Wall said, “The communities are blessed with fertile land and hardworking farmers, but face challenges such as post-harvest losses due to limited access to modern equipment and processing facilities.”
As such, the representative’s engagement with farmers and stakeholders highlighted the need for investment in agricultural infrastructure to address these challenges and boost the local economy.
Mr. Atokple engaged his partners on the need to support the establishment of sugar processing factories, rice milling machines, and Kasette Phattana brand combined harvester.
“We also recognize the potential of expanding fish farming as part of a broader effort to strengthen agriculture in the Region”, he added.
“With the right support, we can improve efficiency, reduce waste, cut down on import dependency, and most importantly, create sustainable jobs for the youth.
Agriculture plays a vital role in our economy, and by strategically investing and working in tandem, we can turn it into a strong driver of growth and opportunity for everyone.
