Kwabre East Member of Parliament, Onyina-Acheampong Kwasi Gyamfi has called on the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to give credit to the economic policies of the erstwhile New Patriotic Party (NPP) for what he termed prudent policies accounting for the upsurge of the cedi.

The Ghana cedi in recent times has seen a remarkable appreciation against major currencies like US$ with the government claiming glory for.

But the New Patriotic Party member of parliament wants the NDC government to credit not only themselves but the NPP as well.

According to Mr. Gyamfi, international factors such as IMF injections, the China-US trade war, and increased gold prices account for driving the cedi’s stability and not government policies.

In an interview with this Reporter, the MP stated that the government hasn’t implemented any significant economic measures to strengthen the cedi but rather enjoying the dividend of already implemented economic policies.

That notwithstanding, the Kwabre East legislator commended the government’s commitment to sustaining the “Gold in Reserves” policy which the NPP government initiated.

“Indeed, governance is continuous.

However, It’s very sickening how government is boasting itself of something it played no role in,” Hon. Gyamfi remarked.

The MP’s comments highlight the ongoing debate about the government’s role in the country’s economic performance.
