The worst form of tidal wave devastation is currently ongoing at Amutinu and Salakope.

Homes have been destroyed, graves have been dug open, the school is on the verge of collapse, and domestic animals are drenched.

The Keta-Aflao road is inundated with sand, and victims have been left homeless in less than two hours, sitting by the roadside with the few possessions salvaged from the sea.

Months after President John Dramani Mahama’s visit to the affected communities, the only outcome has been the allocation of two hundred million Ghana cedis in the budget.

Even then, we do not know what the money is intended for.

Apart from the Volta Regional Minister’s reassurance of the government’s commitment to constructing sea defense walls, the major stakeholders have gone silent.

Can we stop the shenanigans and come to terms with the fact that this issue is about human lives?

In the last two months, government and its partners including benevolent individuals have consistently supported the victims with food and other relief items -commendable as this is, it is not the ultimate solution to larger problem on our hands.

The Ketu South MP must speak up, the Minister for Works and Housing must explain the delay, and the Finance Minister must provide some clarity.

The NDC cannot disappoint the good people of Agavedzi, Amutinu, and Salakope.

We trust in the leadership of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, but the continuous delay is causing more harm and worsening the plight of the people.

Act fast and now.

Kumawu Sylvester, Assembly Member for Amutsinu/Salakorpe
