The Ketu South area is facing a severe crisis as rising sea levels have caused widespread flooding, affecting key roads, including the Keta-Aflao Highway.

The coastal communities of Amutsinu, Salakorpe, and Agavedzi are among the hardest hit, with hundreds of residents rendered homeless.

A recent visit by Fmnewsonline to the area revealed the extent of the devastation, with homes destroyed, graves exposed, and schools on the verge of collapse. Domestic animals are also suffering, with many left stranded in the floodwaters.

Local leaders, including Assembly Member Kumawu Sylvester, have expressed concern over the situation, highlighting the urgent need for government intervention.

The flooding has disrupted the movement of goods and passengers, further exacerbating the economic hardship faced by residents.

The situation demands immediate attention from authorities to mitigate the impact of the rising sea levels and provide relief to affected communities.

The worst form of tidal wave devastation is currently ongoing at Amutsinu, Salakope and Agavedzi particular.

Homes have been destroyed, graves have been dug open, the school is on the verge of collapse, and domestic animals are drenched.

Earlier, Kumawu Sylvester, Assembly Member for Amutsinu/Salakorpe has noted that, “Months after President John Dramani Mahama’s visit to the affected communities, the only outcome has been the allocation of two hundred million Ghana cedis in the budget”.

Even then, they do not know what the money is intended for.

He said, apart from the Volta Regional Minister’s reassurance of the government’s commitment to constructing sea defense walls, the major stakeholders have gone silent.

“Can we stop the shenanigans and come to terms with the fact that this issue is about human lives?

In the last two months, government and its partners including benevolent individuals have consistently supported the victims with food and other relief items -commendable as this is, it is not the ultimate solution to larger problem on our hands”.

He asked the Ketu South MP to speak up, the Minister for Works and Housing must explain the delay, and the Finance Minister must provide some clarity.

“The NDC cannot disappoint the good people of Agavedzi, Amutinu, and Salakope”, the Assembly Member added.
