According to the Attorney General, a shocking GHS 350 million was stolen in just the 2022/2023 National Service year alone through ghost names. In total, over GHS 548 million has been lost to this scandal.

At press briefing in Accra, on 13th June, 2025 the AG said, “I am deeply disturbed”, This is not just a number, “it is money that could have built schools, hospitals, and roads in our communities. It could have supported genuine national service personnel, especially in deprived areas like mine”.

He noted that Ghana cannot afford to normalize such reckless abuse of public funds. The people deserve answers, and above all, justice.

“I throw my full support behind the Attorney General to investigate, prosecute, and recover every pesewa stolen. Let the law bite, no matter whose ox is gored”.
