NPA briefs the Energy Committee of Parliament

The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) briefed the Energy Committee of Parliament on their operations and planned activities for 2025.

The Chairman of the Committee and MP for Ho West stated that,this engagement forms part of the Committee’s oversight responsibility on the downstream petroleum regulator under the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition. He added that, the briefing will enable the Committtee to appreciate their mandate,challenges and the possible interventions needed.

The CEO of the Authority, Eduwudzi Tamakloe briefed members on the six legislative instruments that the Authority is using to regulate the sector which includes tracking systems,local content among others.

He mentioned Bulk Oil Distributors and the Chamber of Oil Distributors as its key stakeholders in the industry.

He indicated that, the industry has the potential for unscrupulous business and the authority is doing all its best to nip it in the bud.

He appealed to the committee for the possibility of increasing the penalty units to serve as deterrent since the current regime is not serving its purpose as intended.

The Committee will follow on this engagement with a visit to their offices to experience at first hand how the Authority carrying out its mandate with the deployment of ICT infrastructure.
