The Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, proudly represented the nation at the 50th Session of the Assemblée Parlementaire de la Francophonie (APF), delivering a heartfelt message of gratitude, unity, and shared purpose. Speaker Bagbin described Ghana’s recent transition from observer status to full membership of the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF) in 2024 as a testament to the country’s deep commitment to the values upheld by the Francophone community. These include democracy, cooperation, mutual solidarity, and cultural diversity. He emphasized that Ghana does not take its membership lightly, as it reflects the country’s dedication to fostering inclusive and global partnerships grounded in shared ideals.

The formal admission of Ghana’s Parliament into the Assemblée Parlementaire de la Francophonie marks a significant milestone in Ghana’s diplomatic and legislative history. According to the Speaker, this step goes beyond symbolism it reflects a renewed commitment to deepen engagement, exchange best practices, and strengthen bilateral relations with other member legislatures. Ghana, he assured, is eager to contribute to the work of the APF, especially in enhancing legislative capacity, promoting democratic governance, and championing the richness of cultural and linguistic diversity.

Concluding his address, Speaker Bagbin reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to parliamentary diplomacy as a tool for peace, human rights, and sustainable development. He pledged that Ghana’s Parliament will work in solidarity with its Francophone peers to confront today’s global challenges with courage and unity. The Speaker stressed that the APF should address its challenges whenever issues arise, especially through its internal processes and mechanisms. He assured the Assembly of Ghana’s active and constructive participation in achieving its collective goals.
