Lydia Lamisi Akanvariba, Member of Parliament for the Tempane and Minister of State, Public Sector Reforms, has strongly condemned the alleged barbaric and senseless attack on a passenger bus traveling from Basyonde to Kumasi, which occurred near Walewale.

According to reports, unknown armed assailants on motorbikes pursued the bus—one riding ahead and another behind—and opened indiscriminate fire on innocent civilians onboard.

This heinous act has led to the tragic loss of two lives and left several others wounded. “This is not only a grave injustice to the affected families but also a deep scar on the conscience of our nation”.

The MP, in a press statement, however, extended her heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, and praying for the speedy recovery of all who were injured-“I call on the Ghana Police Service and relevant security agencies to immediately launch a thorough investigation into this incident and bring the perpetrators to justice. It is imperative that such acts of violence do not go unpunished and that the safety and security of citizens remain a top national priority”.

Madam Lydia, furthermore, urged authorities to expedite the peace process and to enhance security surveillance along major transport routes, particularly along the Bolga-Tamale route, to prevent such tragic events from reoccurring in the future.
