The Minority Leader in Parliament has expressed strong optimism about reclaiming power in 2028 as the party convenes a crucial Delegates Conference aimed at expanding its electoral college and strengthening internal structures.

Addressing delegates, The Minority Leader stressed the importance of unity, discipline, and a renewed sense of purpose as the cornerstones for a successful comeback.

According to Alexander Kwamina Afenyo‑Markin, Member of Parliament for the Effutu “If we choose unity over ego, purpose over personal ambition, no force can stop us in 2028,” a leading figure declared to resounding applause. “When we are united, no external force can divide us. But when we are divided, even our strengths can be used against us.”

The conference comes at a pivotal moment for the party following its loss in the 2024 general elections. Leaders described the setback not as a permanent defeat but as a “stumble” that offers an opportunity for reflection and rebuilding.

“Rebuilding does not mean avoiding or overlooking our differences,” one MP noted. “It means confronting them with maturity and refusing to let factions become permanent fractures. It means calling each other back to the core values which brought us this far.”

He reaffirmed Caucus commitments to defending the party’s legacy in Parliament and holding the current government accountable. “We are strong, united, and committed to the values and ideologies of our Party. We shall show Ghanaians that we remain the better alternative,” the statement read.

“To our aspiring candidates, let this be a season of sober reflection. There is room for all of us at the table, but there is no room for selfish ambition. Let us rise above the temptation to win at all cost and choose instead to serve at all cost.”

Delegates were reminded that the decisions made at this juncture will define the party’s future. “The elephant has only stumbled; it has not been defeated. You have never given up on us, and we, your servants in Parliament, will never give up on you either.”

Youth members, particularly those in TESCON, were urged to stay grounded in party values and to engage respectfully with elders to build a sustainable future for the party.

“Yes, we lost the 2024 elections and in a big way,” one leader admitted. “But let us be clear: this was not a defeat born out of failure. It is time to stop feeling sorry for ourselves and begin the hard work of rising again.”

The conference is expected to lay the foundation for party reforms, energize the grassroots, and set the tone for what leaders hope will be a triumphant return to power in 2028.
