Gov’t announces programme for 3 Days of National Mourning to honour the departed

Government of Ghana has announced programmes for the three days of national mourning, from Thursday, 7 August to Saturday, 9 August 2025.

This solemn period is dedicated to honouring the departed and providing an opportunity for national reflection and remembrance.

Statement issued in Accra by Felix Kwakye Ofosu (MP) Spokesperson to the President, Minister, Government Communications said activities will commence on Thursday with a public laying of flowers and lighting of candles.

According to him, “this act of remembrance will take place at the Ceremonial Garden at the front of the Presidency, from 1:00 pm, Members of the public, families, and friends are respectfully invited to participate”.

The opportunity for the laying of flowers and lighting of candles will continue on Friday, 8 August 2025, allowing further time for citizens to express their condolences and respect.

The period of national mourning will conclude on Saturday, 9 August 2025, with an “Evening of Reflections and Memorials. This poignant event will begin at 5.00 PM at the Forecourt of the State House, where all Ghanaians and families will gather to reflect on the legacy and contributions of the departed”.

These three days offer the nation a vital opportunity to collectively mourn and reflect on the profound loss “we have experienced. We urge all citizens to observe the period of national mourning with dignity and respect”.

Further details regarding the State Funeral and any additional arrangements will be communicated through official government channels, the statement added.
