The Deputy National Communication Officer of the ruling National Democratic Congress, the NDC, has confirmed that the Party will contest the Akwatia by-election on the 2nd of September 2025.
He said, “The decision by the NPP not to contest in the Tamale Central elections is the best decision they have taken in recent times and it is a ploy to run from defeat and to gain sympathies ahead of the Akwatia elections”.
According to him, this is not the first time that a political party has refused to contest in a by-election stressing the fact that “the NDC refused to contest in Ejisu after the demise of John Kumah”.
“We want to put on record that the Akwatia seat was in court and was not conclusive until the unfortunate demise of our brother Ernest Kumi”, he submitted.
“Let’s also be careful of the NPP when they say they are not contesting. In the Ablekumah North rerun, the NPP declared that they were not contesting, but in fact, they were the first to hit the ground”, he warned.
