The Obuasi High Court has delivered a significant ruling, dismissing the election petition filed by former Minister of Trade and Industry, Kobina Tahiru Hammond, challenging the victory of incumbent MP Godwin Animli Dorgbadzi Dorani in the 2024 general elections for Adansi Asokwa.
On August 19, 2025, Justice Kwabena Twumasi dismissed Hammond’s petition and imposed a ¢60,000 fine on him, citing delays and procedural misconduct.

The dispute arose after Hammond narrowly lost to Dorani, who secured 14,229 votes compared to Hammond’s 13,275, a margin of 954 votes. Hammond’s attempt to challenge the results through the courts began with a petition filed on January 15, 2025.
However, his repeated absences and procedural lapses contributed to the court’s decision to dismiss the case.

Reacting to the verdict, Richard Andy, legal counsel for the victorious MP, expressed satisfaction, stating that the petition lacked legal foundation. “This ruling allows my client to focus on serving his constituents without the distraction of frivolous legal challenges,” Andy said.

With the court’s decision, Dorani remains the duly elected MP for Adansi Asokwa, while Hammond has been ordered to pay the imposed fine. The case underscores the importance of diligence and adherence to legal procedures in electoral disputes.
