Dr. Koma-Steem Jehu Appiah has received his first diplomatic posting as Ghana’s Ambassador to the Russian Federation.
He was sworn in at the Jubilee House on Thursday, September 4, 2025, together with 14 other envoys by President John Dramani Mahama.
Dr. Jehu Appiah is a medical doctor and public health specialist who has combined his profession with political and social advocacy. Within the National Democratic Congress, he serves as Secretary General of the NDC Professionals Forum and in 2024 led the Forum’s National Campaign Team. He has also taken part in party work as a manifesto communicator and a member of the COVID-19 task force. His advocacy has often focused on health and the environment, including his call last year for stronger measures against illegal mining.
At the swearing-in ceremony, President Mahama reminded the new ambassadors that their appointments reflected confidence in their ability to serve the nation. He said their selection was based on years of dedication and contributions in both public and private life. The President urged them to go beyond traditional diplomacy and to promote Ghana’s development agenda abroad. He noted that Ghana must be projected as a land of opportunity, open for business and partnerships that deliver jobs, growth, and dignity for its people.
Dr. Jehu Appiah is expected to strengthen relations between Ghana and Russia in areas such as health, education, trade, and energy. He will also work to promote investment opportunities and support the Ghanaian community, including students studying in Russia.
