New chapter of hope and security has been written in the history of Ekumfi as the Member of Parliament, Dr. Othniel Ekow Kwainoe, led the sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of the first-ever Ekumfi District Police Headquarters at Ekumfi Essakyir, the District capital.

In a stirring address to chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, and hundreds of residents, Dr. Kwainoe described the project as “a foundation for a safer, stronger Ekumfi,” stressing that no community can thrive without peace and security.“

Security is not a privilege, it is a right.

As your Member of Parliament, it is my duty to help guarantee that right,” he declared to rousing applause.

For years, Ekumfi has relied on police support from Mankessim, Jedu, Saltpond, and other neighbouring commands.

This, the MP explained, often led to delay responses during emergencies and overstretched law enforcement personnel, leaving communities vulnerable.

The establishment of the District Police Headquarters, therefore, marks a critical turning point in strengthening security delivery and restoring confidence across the constituency.

According to him the new facility will serve as the central hub of law enforcement, bringing policing closer to residents, enhancing rapid response to crime, and giving assurance to farmers, traders, fisherfolk, and students alike that their safety is paramount.“

From the farmer in Akwansa Kokodo to the trader in Essaakyir, from the fisherfolk in Immuna to the student in Otuam – every citizen deserves to feel safe,” the MP emphasized.

The sod-cutting ceremony was not only about security but also reflected the MP’s broader vision for holistic development in Ekumfi. Just a day

before, Dr. Kwainoe had distributed 35,000 coconut seedlings to farmers as part of a sustainable livelihood and climate resilience initiative.

He also revealed upcoming interventions including the completion of the long-abandoned Essuehyia Market and other community development projects.

Beyond infrastructure, the MP hinted at festive programs planned for December, including community-wide activities to foster unity and prepare the grounds for a grand Ekumfi Akwambo Kese next year – a cultural event expected to showcase the district’s rich heritage to the entire nation.

The event was graced by traditional leaders, clergy, youth groups, women associations, and security officials, who all hailed the project as a timely intervention that will transform the security landscape of the district. In a symbolic gesture,

Hon. Kwainoe and the chiefs jointly lifted shovels to turn the soil, marking the official start of construction.“Today, we are not just cutting sod,” the MP said passionately. “We are planting the seeds of safety, dignity, and prosperity. Together, we are building not just a Police Headquarters, but a stronger future for Ekumfi.”With this groundbreaking initiative, the people of Ekumfi look forward with renewed optimism, confident that the district is steadily rising on the path of peace, progress, and prosperity.
